Ireland U20s make four changes ahead of Italy clash

Ireland celebrate one of Mullins' tries

Ireland head coach Richie Murphy has made four changes from his side’s 17-16 victory over France ahead of Friday’s Six Nations Under-20s game against Italy.

Chay Mullins, Jude Postlethwaite, Fionn Gibbons and Matthew Devine come into the starting XV for the match at Musgrave Park.

Ireland currently sit top of the standings after two matches and are the only unbeaten side remaining but face an Italy team fresh off of an impressive 6-0 victory over England.

Ahead of the game, Murphy said: “We’ve had another good week of preparation in the build-up to what we know will be a tough challenge.

“Italy enjoyed a brilliant win over England last time out and certainly we’ll need to step it up another gear this week in front of our home supporters.”

Mullins returns to the wing where he scored two tries in the 53-5 victory over Wales in Round 1, while Gibbons also returns to the back three.

Murphy has made no changes to the forwards ahead of a performance he hopes will be boosted by the home crowd.

He added: “The atmosphere at Musgrave Park for the Wales game was memorable and it lifted the whole group to have that vocal and strong home support behind us.

“We’re excited to get back to Cork on Friday night and hopefully build on our performances to date.”
